I found this was a handy alternative when I don't want to pack a 2-3L water reservoir in my pack. If it's not warm out, I find that a 1L Nalgene (which this seems designed to fit) is plenty for me. This was easy to attach to my pack, and I didn't find that it got too tangled or twisted often enough to be annoying.
I like the idea of this. It’s easy to install however, where it sits is not. When I’m walking my elbow hits me water bottle and can’t naturally swing. I’ve tried adjusting but there’s not really anywhere else to put it. I do love the ease of access to it and the retention system.
I’ve used bladders and a drinking tube for years so I didn’t have to take my pack off and dig for a bottle. But hunting in WY, my tubes frequently froze up. I gave this holster a shot and was initially skeptical and feared it would be uncomfortable under my arm. I was pleasantly surprised this last weekend on a backpack trip for elk. It came in super handy packing out my bull. Great invention and I’d recommend giving it a try!
The water bottle holder was fine and geld the bottle as advertised. Material quality is top notch. That being said, this should be secured on the pack waist belt not from the pack webbings. It made shouldering the pack very difficult as it gets twisted and tangled very easily. Also to note, I purchased 2 and could only utilize 1 due to the rifle carrier being in the way on my right side. Took a bit to get used to but I survived my 6 day Idaho backcountry without any issues. Only giving 3 stars because of the set up location. Again, I feel a waist best option would have been more conducive to my pack set up.
I've messed around with this bottle holder a bunch and sure, it carries a water bottle but it's always in the way and I don't know if it's the angle I have it set to or what but my water sloshes around inside there making noise. The bottle also bounces around. I think I'd rather just have a bottle holder that is vertically aligned with the pack that hooks to the side and doesn't flop around so much. I'd just use the internal hydration pouch (which I also have) but late in the season, the hose to my bladder system freezes up so carrying a bottle is necessary.
When I first received the Hydro Holster I was a bit skeptical. It seemed sort of cumbersome, but once I installed it and used it in the field it felt like it was a normal part of my gear. It hangs right where it is out of my arm swing yet it is easy to access to reach my water bottle and put my water bottle back. Great design.
I already have the hydro sleeve in my pack but liked the idea of having a water bottle accessible without taking the pack off. This setup works perfectly and is extremely lightweight. On a recent elk hunt I used it as a place to keep my smaller Phelps unrivaled bugle tube within quick easy reach. Works perfectly for that as well.
Keeps my bottle within reach but not in the way Doesn’t bounce around to much and the bungee cord is nice to keep your bottle in place. Overall pretty simple but a nice addition to an already awesome pack.
Fits a variety of bottles. Seems to secure them so they won’t fall out with the limited use I have put it through. Little bit difficult to reach where it attaches with one hand but big improvement over a standard bottle holder that’s part of pack.
I purchased this as a gift, not realizing it was backordered. I contacted SG and they updated me frequently on the order. It even arrived in time still. My husband and I both run SG packs and love the quality provided by the packs and the SG team. Thanks guys!
