Takes a little work to get the fit right, but once you do!
I own several what I would call quality backpacks, but I needed a higher volume pack for back country hunt this year. The Stone Glacier Sky Archer 6400 is the most versatile comfortable pack that I have ever worn. It did take some time to get the pack fitted, but once I did, it was right. My only complaint it that there are only two pockets. The zipper does alleviate some of this issue. An external water bottle pocket would be very nice. I did order Stone Glacier rifle sling and the large pocket. The rifle sling is not perfect, but it is better than fighting to keep the rifle on your shoulder. I packed out front and back quarters of a small cow in one load. I had minimum internal storage usage for the pack out. The pack worked better than my meat frame pack. I would highly suggest this backpack!
Just got back from Five day Colorado ram hunt. Packed in 10 days of provisions. Packed out both hind quarters on meat shelf, and pack was awesome. Super solid and comfortable. Side zipper super convenient for getting to glass easily. Helped us find more sheep for sure.
I received this just over a week ago and I am very pleased. I’ve loaded it up with all the necessities and have been hitting the hills getting ready to chase some whitetail in Southern AZ. I love the single full length side zip and it’s got plenty of attachment points for accessories so the possibilities are endless. I’ll write a follow up after my hunt.
At first I was skeptical on spending this kind of money for a pack. After using it for the first weekend of archery deer here in California I was very happy with it. We hiked in and set up camp with all our needed food water and camping supplies. It carried the weight with ease. We then set up camp after hiking in and dropped most of our supplies at base camp so we had the least amount in our pack to hunt. We hunted with a full 3 liter bladder and some snacks and meat bags/knives and optics. Very minimal. This pack cinched down and was a very light weight pack that strapped my bow perfectly. It was very hot 101 degree weather where we were at. We hiked a total of 17 miles in two days and now at work on Monday I am typing this review. I don’t ache or am sore from the pack at all. Thanks for a great product and I will definitely be buying more from stone glacier!
I have owned this pack for a while now. As per the many reviews, I have found the build quality, design and maintenance to be excellent. I have also been using the Evo frame for something entirely different - spearfishing. I have several spots where the descent down and back up a steep slope, essentially scaling a cliff, to be much easier with the frame. After all, a wetsuit, weights, speargun and a successful day weighs well in excess of 60lb. Too bad my bag gets slimy and hard to wash. My suggestion - make a bag to accommodate dive fins buy build in drainage and accessory catchbag from high abrasion rating nylon with attachment buckles for simple install against the aforementioned bag.
Stone glacier has something going for them. The way these packs expand and compress is just what I was looking for. I haven’t used the sky archer on a hunt yet but have packed it around on a hand full of hikes and put my 2 year old in the bag and he loved it. Fits very good with 40 lbs and can’t imagine that it would be different with 100lbs. Definitely recommend stone glacier packs. Thanks for the good product!
I bought the pack a little big, in preparation for a spring bear hunt in the Hells Canyon. I had to take a guess as to what would be enough pack, for the nearest dealer was a couple hours away. I have taken the pack on several day trips loaded down, looking for sheds. It holds my gear well and fits very nice. This pack is very nice. I do not anticipate having to buy another one anytime soon. I am very happy with my purchase
I’ve put 60 lbs in this pack and took it out for a 3 mile hike and had some spots rubbing on the belt but with the instructional videos I was able to adjust and customize it. Rubs are gone and it feels like I could carry that weight for miles. The bag is simple which is what I wanted. And the capability of running it in bivy mode on day hunts and small length overnight trips to setting it up for full capacity of 6400 is awesome. This pack can do it all!
The pack is amazing! It is very easy to set up for YOUR body shape, which is actually tough for thin framed guys like me. It's comfortable and being able to run it in bivy mode for short trips and training on trails in the off season is perfect. The meat frame configuration is the best I've seen or used. The only thing I would change is the lack of an existing water bladder storage. I don't like that I have to buy an additional part. Stitching is all top notch. Thanks for building such a solid pack!
Last year I purchased an Evo 40/56 and loved it. Unfortunately, my 16 y/o son decided he loved/ needed it more so I bought a smaller hip belt for him and passed it down, leaving me needing a new multi day pack. The Sky Archer is all that and then some. I absolutely love it. It’s comfortable, durable, spacious, and leaves very little left to desire in a pack. I had disc replacement surgery in my neck in August 2018 and fusion surgery on my lower back in April 2019. The pack is so comfortable and balanced that I was packing heavy loads this fall with little to no back pain. Great Pack. I use it for everything from a day pack to hauling 3-4 day’s worth of gear and food. Highly recommend SG
This is the best pack I have ever owned. Big waist belt is super nice because I’m a skinny dude and a lot of packs tear up my hips. I can get the waist belt really tight with a heavy load. I use it for everything from multi day hunts, fishing trips, day hunting, and family outings. (Dads are pack mules) Everything on the pack is highly functional and durable. Nothing feels “gimmicky”. If this pack were to get stolen, I would just buy the same one the next day.
Took it out for a test hike with limited gear inside. Compressed down extremely well and was great to carry; no loose shifting like most big bags give when they’re not filled. Then packed it with heavy gear for a second test run. Amazing how much it could hold and how much could be strapped to the outside. It was really comfortable full as well. I’d make the purchase again.
So far I've been using it for hiking and scouting. Been carrying about 40 lbs to get ready for archery elk. I dont even notice the weight its put together so well. I love how it can be cinched down for day use and also expand to carry all my gear. Full side zipper- Brilliant. Awesome work Stone Glacier.
At the moment I can’t give a review on the actual use of the gear being I just started to break it in. I can however say that the customer service or sales, or just the people I dealt with were wonderful!! Top notch, answers to every question, knowledgeable, honest, and just plain easy to talk/work with. Everything came as expected, and as comfortable as I had hoped. Pending my memory, I do feel the need to update or add to my review when I get out west doing work this fall.
I bought this pack for the load shelf and massive storage, first time out I tested the load shelf put 2?elk quarters on it and packed out. Comfortable and high quality backpack. Thank you Stone Glacier.
You get what you pay for. This bag exceeds all my expectations in functionality and durability. The bag does it all, from multi-day backpacking hunts in the mountains to compacting down for a day hunt. The learning curve was easy due to Stone Glaciers excellent turtorial videos on their website. Will be definitely ordering more assesories for my bag!
I have only used this pack for a climbing trip so far but it has far exceeded my expectations and out performed any pack I have had in the past. Simple and intuitive to pack and use. I have had other packs with a thousand buckles and pockets which ultimately just makes things complicated and creates unneeded effort in storing and retrieving things you need. The comfort and light weight make you forget you even have a pack on. Highly recommend.
I haven’t put the Sky Archer through the paces yet but I’m loving what I see. Fit was great. Super impressed with how it compacts into bivy mode. I not a gear nut but I do have a lot of appreciation for equipment that performs when called upon. Also, THANK YOU Stone Glacier for making your packs here in the US. The only thing I’d change on this bag is that American Flag tag that say made in the USA. It should be 6 square inches
