This is the most comfortable, well designed packs I’ve ever used and I’ve used some very high end packs. It really shines under extremely heavy loads. Do yourself a favor and get any of the Stone Glacier packs. These guys know their stuff!!!!
Not 1 complaint, bag is lightweight, easy to adjust, comfortable wearing. First practice run was with 45 lbs for a mile and after I adjusted pack weight it preformed great. 2nd practice run with 40 lbs and 3 miles: no hot spots, no problems!!!!! Great pack tks
Though I am still in the process of testing and stress testing it. With filling it with sand bags (about 80isb pounds) and just taking my dogs for some hikes... in comparison to the packs I used in the Marine Corps, this one was way more comfortable and allowed me to hike with more comfort and less stress on my already messed up back. The weather in WA is prohibiting my ability to take it out on longer test trials, but I will definitely be looking forward with taking this one to the field for future hunting trips and more.
I like that the packs are sized and there are lots of adjustments that can be made, I purchased mine after using my brothers. I appreciated that the pack was well balanced, it fit comfortable and dispersed the load well. I am 5'9" female and purchased the medium for hunts and backpacking excursions.
From unboxing this pack my initial impression was very impressed. It was easy to fit and install the accessory pockets and gunsling I purchased with the pack. It is incredibly light weight however all the material is tough and the pack is very well constructed. The side pockets are plenty big enough to fit my Swaro ATS 65 which I wasn’t sure if it would. I have only done one hike with it and it carried extremely well. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the pack or the company. Exceptional product from a top notch company with great costumer service. I am looking forward to using it on this years Stone Sheep hunt.
So after many exhaustive hours of researching a new hunting pack that would fit my needs best, and hunting this past fall with a friend of mine that owns the Sky Talus 6900, I decided that this would be the pack for me. I was extremely impressed with how well thought out every pocket, zipper and strap was. You can tell that the folks at Stone Glacier truly understand hunting in various conditions and use the products themselves. The customer service at Stone Glacier is second to none as well. I had some questions when I was comparing models and needed some help, so I called them up and had all my questions answered. I was also more than happy to not only support an American company, but also that the pack is completely made in America! While I ordered my pack after my hunting season had already wrapped up, I am more than confident that it will work out nicely when I start back up again later this year.
I got the 6900 for Christmas and I love it! I haven’t put it to full test yet but I used it out ice fishing where it was completely soaking wet but 100% dry on the inside! I was able to pack a lot in it and have so much more space left!
Ok picked up this pack after my Kuiu hip belt blew out when I was squatting down to pickup my rifle. Took it out last week for its first hunt and was able to test it out on mule deer buck. The load shelf is easy to use and the quality seems to be higher than my previous kuiu pack. Looking forward to more heavy packs next fall.
I bought this SG as an upgrade from another brand of pack. I recently used it on a one night scouting trip and then a 4 day backpack hunt. In both instances it performed well. With a 65# of gear and water, mostly water, the load carried great on my hips and never wore out my shoulders. Love this pack.
Had a couple different packs and nothing really felt "comfortable" with any reasonable amount of load. First outing with the pack and it held the load so well it basically felt like I was carrying 30 lbs less. Can't recommend the pack enough!
I got this pack last week and took it out scouting for goats last weekend. It completely lived up to my expectations as far as quality, comfort, and versatility. After setting up camp I cinched things down to use it as a day bag in no time and it was just as good. Super light weight yet sturdy. My friends all checked it over and we’re impressed too. I would definitely recommend it.
Very comfortable pack (I have the xcurve frame) no pressure points on my back! It rode on my waist, relieving pressure on my shoulders which I love. I also like the meat shelf and am excited to use it this fall! Overall an excellent pack!
6'3, 270. First trip was in the Sequoia National Forest for Archery Black Bear. Of course at home it felt great, but getting out on the trail it performed amazing. We packed our camps out with us and it did an amazing job. I had zero issue with fitting everything I needed in the pack. Once we set up camp and I compressed the bag, it was the perfect day pack. It was non existent on my back. I was never in a rush to take it off and "get a break". All the compression straps make a everything fit tight and neat. So slop, or hanging weight even when we were carrying all our camp gear and water. Unfortunately we weren't successful so I haven't been able to test the load shelf.
I've had other packs where I just haven't been able to distribute the weight between my hips and my shoulders very well. Which left me with sore shoulders after a hunt. I was able to add or remove weight to my shoulders easily with this pack and came out with camp, a bear, and no sore shoulders. The design is perfect for what I want/need and everything is made to be durable. Stone Glacier is making some great products!
I did a lot of research on companies and packs and finally decided on the Sky Talus for its size, versatility, design, and weight. I followed the video instructions for how to fit the pack, and have since done multiple hikes with 50lbs of gravel in the load shelf. Everything works perfect and the fit and durability of the materials are great and as advertised. In Bivy mode it will be perfect for whitetail hunts here in NY and fully expanded this pack with handle anything I will go on out west. The service has been great and even the videos are all on point. Stone Glacier has earned my loyalty and I will be looking into some of their other products shortly.
I packed everything my wife and I needed for a weekend trip. We hiked in 6 miles and this pack was extremely comfortable with plenty of room and made the weight seem like nothing. I’m sold on the Sky Talus 6900 for life!
I have used this pack on many hunts. It is durable and has held up very well. I highly recommend it!!! It's super easy to streamline all my gear and defiantly the most comfortable pack out there. Keep up the great work SG!!!
My main concern was how small this pack would be able to compress down for shorter hunts. Let me tell you, if you're going back and forth between this or the sky 5900, go with the Sky Talus 6900. It packs down so fricken small it's absurd. My only critique with this pack is that it's damn strappy. Straps dangling can be nightmarish for a bowhunter, but I'm working through it because everything is amazing quality.
Super easy with the help of your tutorial video to put this bag on my x curve frame. Already had the solo bag. Love the room. Great all around bag. Can’t get over how light SG stuff is. American made. Great company to get to know.
I spent a lot of time researching the right pack for me. This pack had everything that I was looking for with easy accessibility, room to fit all my gear, and multiple adjustments to relax the hot spots that develop throughout the day on a backcountry hunt. I couldn’t be more impressed with the quality of customer service that this company provides and how much they stand behind there product. This is an outstanding company with an amazing product and I would recommend them to anyone.
The quality and craftsmanship of this pack is excellent. The customer support has been top notch. I have not had the opportunity to use the pack in the field yet. Its maiden journey will be for an Alaskan sheep hunt in August. I provide a more detailed review at that time.
I ran the X curve and talus for the 2017 season and spring of 2018. I got curious about another pack that was not SG and ended up replacing it. Well, I had regretted that decision within no time and have now replaced that pack with my original Stone Glacier set up. In my opinion, the X curve and 6900 is the best combo I have found for fit, function, and durability.
I have owned and tried a number of different high end brands of hunting backpacks. None of which feel like the sky talus 6900 with the xcurve frame! I have used this backpack extensively and it is built to last and is hands down the most comfortable backpack I have ever owned!!
I’ve only been able to get out for a couple test hikes but I’m happy with it so far. Loaded pretty light, just a tent, sleeping bag, spotter/tripod, and water but it compresses down real nice, easy to forget it’s there.
I just recently purchased the Sky Talus 6900, but I wish I made the purchase about a year ago before I made the trip to Alaska’s north slope for caribou. I am a NY resident and plan to continue to hunt more back country in as many states as I can. This pack is a must have item for those serious about travel with minimal equipment and space options, but also people who need maximum output loads in remote areas. The two great factors incorporated into this pack is the ability to compress this bag to fit into the carrier on luggage boxes for air travel and the ability of this bag to transport gear or game in the field. Rock solid construction, awesome engineering, easy to use and adjust with great customer service. Well done... Stone Glacier!
In transition from plain backpacking to backpack hunting, I knew my old pack likely wouldn’t be up the the task, long-term. So after careful research, I decided of all the high-end hunting packs out there, the Sky Talus would suit my needs perfectly, but didn’t think I’d pull the trigger right away. That held until I stopped into the Stone Glacier showroom in Bozeman. Between their outstanding staff and the feel of wearing the weighted X Frame, I made my decision. Went home and ordered one as soon as I could. Immediately on its arrival, I loaded my new pack with my standard backcountry kit. It carries like a dream. Now all I need is for the backcountry to open up so I can really put this thing through its paces, up to and including backpack hunting in the Bob.
This pack is feature rich, but minimal all at the same time!! I would highly recommend anything Stone Glacier if you are on the fence. Having ran most of the big name packs, the lightweight, but stable frame on the SG line of packs is incredible. I prefer the side access pockets of the Talus vs the other packs. The side pockets were my deciding feature. If you're on the fence, you cant go wrong with these packs. I was fortunate enough to make it in the SG Showroom, and put a frame on with a 50# bag of sand, and thought it was 30#!!! I was sold right then and there.
This bag is great. If I could only have one bag for everything, it would definitely be this one, the 6900 cubic inch capacity will obviously get you through a 10 day trip but its how well this pack does in bivy mode that really has me impressed. The center zip offers great access to the main bag and the two side zipper pockets are perfect to quick to get items you need often throughout the day. A lot of people say most other large capacity packs "compress well for day mode" but in my experience that just means a giant bag is strapped down with compression straps and you end up with straps everywhere. That is not the case with this bag - the way the bag is sewn allows it to compress to bivy mode like it was made for it. Luckily I have 3 SG bags but if I could only have one, it'd be the Sky Talus
