I live in Montana, and our muzzle loader season calls for no-frills, old school style rifles (no in-line, pyro pellets, sabots, etc.) I chose this rifle first based on looks- the Kentucky design is classic, and this one looks really good IMO. But when I picked it up, I realized it has awesome balance, even though its a long, somewhat heavy gun. My cheek welds perfectly on the stock to line up my eye with the sights for consistent target acquisition, and the sights are pretty good for fixed irons. You can't adjust the sights for distance, only windage (if you have a mallet and punch), but I found it shot pretty consistent \"minute of deer\" groups at 100 yards using patched round balls and a healthy hold-over. I loaded this thing up with pyrodex RS (all I have at the moment) and hunted the other day in the rain. No luck, so it sat loaded (NOT capped) for 2 days in my garage safe, and then I took it out and shot it. It went off with no hesitation! \n-There are a few things that could be better: The wood feels a bit soft, similar to wood stocks on a lot of inexpensive modern rifles, but if you want flamed maple, you gotta pay a lot more! I'm gonna bang mine up in the muddy woods, so I don't care really. Also, the nipple doesn't seem to fit #10 CCI caps like it should. They are a bit loose. I tried Remington 11s and they actually fit a bit better, especially with a pinch first. I might go with aftermarket Slix or something. The ramrod is really cool (real wood!) but it's not threaded for cleaning jags, which is annoying. I'll likely purchase a hickory wiper with a threaded ferrule. Finally, the trigger flops around a little. I have heard all of them do this, not just mine. You get used to it, but still... kind of annoying.\n-Overall, I love it!
