I am a big guy and have lost a ton of weight, so I have a hard time with size right now. These are \"over pants\", so you want them on the big side. 2×l was a generous fit for my 38\" waist, plus appropriate base layers. My overall opinion on the garment is great. They are not insulated, but feel thick. They are reasonably water resistant, but not comparable to waders. The design is crisp and clean and the stitching is as expected. They have front and back zipper pockets, as well as front access pockets for getting to the under layers. There is also a front zipper fly, for when nature calls. However, the \"belt loops\" are basically useless and the draw string is weak.
