The boots are comfortable with the custom insoles I purchased, but my absolute biggest gripe about these boots is that the UltraDry Waterproof label sewn onto the boot is horribly misleading for any consumer looking for a well rounded boot. I travel for work and I work outdoors. I walked through tall wet grass that seeped through the UltraDry membrane and soaked my feet before the lunch hour. You can imagine my state of mind walking around with cold, sopping wet socks for the rest of the day. As a consumer, I wish I was either informed or warned about the eventual deterioration of this UltraDry membrane. Of the time I’ve owned these boots, I hadn’t even worn them for a total 365 days. My confidence for these boots on possible wet days has dropped significantly. Other than my personal experience, it’s still a good boot for dry days, but those aren’t always promised. They were a present to myself as my previous Farmington Irish Setter's were starting to come apart at the sole. I had that pair for 4 years through some heavy work and serious ladder climbing, they were due to start coming apart. I really loved those boots, and was quite saddened to see that they were made any longer. So I spent 2 weeks of looking for a new pair and I only looked at Irish Setter boots. These were my 3rd pair in 9 years. I was excited when they arrived and jumped quick to put them on. That joy ended fast. First off, the steel toe was set extremely too low. I'm a 12D and have been since the 6th grade. I have worn at least 10 pair of steel toed boots in my life and none of them did the steel toe rub the top of my foot. To make it worse, my right boot had issues in the back center heel where it seemed like the leather was creased in. So after wearing them very painfully for 2 days, I could barely walk. I took a break from them for a week and then started again. I would have complained, but I now live in Alaska in a remote area and it's very difficult to mail things back and forth. I was determined to break them in. After 2 weeks I had an extreme blister on my right heel. I have now had the boots and continue to wear them every day to work. It took nearly 2 months to break them in where they were finally comfortable. In my job, I crawl up and down steel ladders, in and out of mud and water. Already the sole has cracks near the upper seam and boots squeak on any solid floor. The leather on the boots cuts easily all the way down to the steel toe. These boots just don't cut it. I'm not sure if Irish Setter is making their boots in the same factory that other manufactures use that only charge $100 for a set or not. I wasn't going to write a review, however after I noticed the next crack in the sole, I'm just a bit dissatisfied. I want the company to be aware of this to hopefully fix the quality checks a bit closer. You certainly have made a great product in boot wear over the previous 10 years, but if this set of boots is an indication of the quality, then I'll look elsewhere. I listened and have enjoyed my boots since! The leather is tough and the insoles just mold to my feet, keeping me comfortable all day. I HIGHLY recommend you buy this boot! Mind you, I'm a project Manager. So I'm not working in these as hard as most, but I do get in there to help out. Layout, crawling around taking measurements and snapping lines. I initially absolutely love them. Quick break in time, lightweight, and really comfortable. Now comes the bad... I loved them from the first day. I have really wide feet and they fit so comfortable. I don't feel a squeeze at all. Only problem I have is the soles have worn out. I was told there is a lifetime warranty on these boots for the soles and I took them down to red wing store and they told me there is no such thing. So that was a little disappointing because I chose these ones for that reason. I found these around 6-7 years ago, and feel in love with the fit, and comfort, with wide feet, it was always hard to find something comfortable, until i found these. I found myself even buying a pair for everyday use, and work, typically 2-3 pair a year. I went to my local Rural King, where I’ve gone for years, bought a pair, and the sole started to separate within a week, and I went back and exchanged them, and now after a few months of ware, my heel is killing my at the end of the day, I noticed a red pad on the bottom of the insole that has broken down, went on website and can’t find a replacement insole, and the store said they can’t get them either???
