The elastic waist is comfy but not obvious. The material is so light and soft. I prefer having the two cell phone pockets rather than one and a 3D pocket—the 3D pocket on some of my other Kuhl pants sticks out and sometimes catches on things. The bungee cinch at the leg hem is well designed. I've had pants with this before, except there were hard plastic things on the bungee that would swing under my feet if I were wearing flip flops. With these pants, the hard plastic toggle for the cinch is attached to the pant leg, so there's only thin bungee cable hanging out, and it doesn't weigh enough to get caught under foot. Venting is great. I've enjoyed the air flow from the mesh pockets of some of my other Kuhl pants and shorts, and I've open up the side pockets before to act as a vent. These side vents are specifically designed to be vents (there's no extra pocket material inside), and they are taller than the pockets. These seemed like a perfect candidate. They are marketed for hot, tropical weather and could help keep me cool, and they are also a semi-professional pant that is ideal for my work. I bought these at the end of June and they arrived mid July. I also went on vacation during hurricane season, so I looked at my work schedule and counted the days that I've actually worn them since I received them. Between the 2 pairs, I have worn them for less than 20 days (so less then 10 each), and they are already sun fading and turning brown, especially where I sweat. To be fair, I did buy the navy blue and blue is the worse for sun browning, however I did expect the color to last for more than a few days, especially from such an expensive pant that is apparently designed for the sun. Compare to blue shorts that I bought 2 seasons ago that are faded, but barely browned still today, and I can't accept that these pants are already browning. I am also very careful to wash with a mild detergent, inside out, and I don't even own a drier; all my clothes are hang dried in the shade, inside out. They are the only brand I've worn for the last 10+ years. BUT! these pants (at least the dark blue color) started noticeably fading after the very 1st wash. This is with mellow soap and warm water. I am only about 4 washes in (trying to minimize needing to) and they look like something a mechanic has worn while working on trucks for the last 10 years. I'm cool with natural patina but these give off a strong \"Disheveled\" vibe (not what I'm looking for).
