The quick lace system is nice and held up but laces would have done just fine. \r\nMy one gripe was all Solomon boots is the inner sole is not the most comfortable for me, so I usually swap that out right away. Agile, yet sturdy and warm which is bonus when snowshoeing. The soles have a great design which is highly functional when boot packing, even without microspikes/crampons - and the design also accommodates snowshoe bindings or microspikes/crampons very well. Been snow packing and shoeing for 45+ years, and these are by far the best all-around boot for the job. I struggle with many of the negative comments about the boot where it seems these comments are from people simply trying to get a refund (you know who you are), or are just misusing the boot features. The lace system does take some practice to get boot tight, but works well - I suggest a leg out toe-point when snugging up the speed lace, then just work your foot up and down while cinching. There is plenty of room for storing the lace, but I would agree you can't do it well with gloves on, which isn't that big of a deal when you are starting out on a trek. I can't imagine how people are breaking the lace or the lace runners... good grief!, it's mondo tech cord and I can't imagine how someone would need or even attempt to apply that much force. Misuse in my opinion. In less than a month one of the \"quick lace\" laces sawed right through one of the cloth loops. The combination of the narrow string like lace and the cloth loop is destined for failure. Plus, the lace system requires you to buy replacement laces only from Salomon should a lace break before the loop.\r\n\r\nI submitted a warranty claim, which was honored quickly. However, rather than a refund, I was given a $200 credit to spend on Salomon's website. I could not replace the boot model because it was, and still is weeks later, out of stock in my size. Thus, I was forced to buy a different winter boot from a different manufacturer to get through winter, using more cash out of pocket. \r\n\r\nBecause I did not need a second pair of winter boots, I decided to use my credit to buy from Salomon a new pair of summer hiking boots, which were priced at $140, leaving $60 of my credit unused. I found a nice pair of shorts for $60 to add to my order. When I applied my credit at checkout it only allowed me to use $140 of it to buy the boots. Reading the fine print I see that I can only use the credit to purchase one item, and if that item is of lesser value, too bad, you lose your money because Salomon delivered you a defective product in the first place. To be clear, my issue arises not because I randomly changed my mind and wanted to buy something other than the original boot model I purchased, I had to use the credit on something else because Salomon does not have the original boot in stock in my size with no indication when a restock would occur and I was forced to buy a different boot from a different company because it is mid-winter in Vermont.\r\n\r\nWhen I complained about the loss of credit I was told not to worry because the credit is good for a year so I should just wait and get the original boots when the restock does occur. This, of course, ignores the fact that I was forced to already buy a different pair of winter boots because of (1) Salomon's delivery of a defective boot in the fist place, and (2) the need to buy another winter hiking boot with cash from a different brand because it is mid-winter and Salomon could not supply me with a replacement. \r\n\r\nSo, Salomon makes a profit on my original purchase by requiring me to use a credit instead of giving me a refund, then makes a further profit by not allowing me to use the full amount of the credit, all because Salomon delivered a defective product. I believe this is called ripping off the customer. I use them in Mammoth Lakes in the winter to get around everywhere. The laces concept works great and makes the shoe easy to put on and take off. The only part that was disappointing was the footbed. I was expecting a fit more like the Solomon trail running shoes that have a very supportive narrower fit with a nice arch. This one has more of a flat and wide profile inside the shoe and is sized a bit larger. Quality of construction was great. I expect the tread pattern would be great on snow. Sadly, I had to return these as they did not fit. I have tried on six or seven different styles of Salomon footwear thinking that the fit might be style dependent. Unfortunately, my heel does not stay planted in the rear of the shoe and slips with each step. Sizing down creates low toe box space. But constantly slips on a little bit of slick ice. My insulated Danners hold well on ice so a little disappointed.
