There are two settings: the default mode is for panning and scanning, which has kind of a floating feel to it. Once you find a target, you switch to the increased stabilization mode where you’re locked in to a particular point in space. The optics work well for my moving platform. They perform excellently on a boat out on the water. The only place they struggle is in a helicopter, when the optical stabilization is turned on. It is thrown off by the constant vibration, which results in a blurred image. Other than that unique use case, I strongly recommend purchasing these. There is no way I would ever use binoculars at this magnification if they were not optically stabilized or on a tripod.
