How to Choose a Football
How to Choose a Football
Select the Right Football Size
- Official Size: Also known as size 9, this is the standard used for high school, collegiate, and professional play for athletes ages 14 and up.
- Youth Sizes: To help younger players develop proper passing and catching mechanics, choose smaller sizes like Junior (ages 10-12), Youth (ages 12-14), or Pee Wee (ages 6-9).
- Skill Development: Using a ball that fits the player's hand size ensures better control and prevents the development of poor throwing habits early on.
Choose Between Leather and Composite
Leather footballs are the gold standard for competitive play because they offer a premium feel and enhanced grip that actually improves over time as the ball is broken in. For recreational use or practice in varied weather, composite footballs are a durable and cost-effective alternative.
