Setting Up A Tip Up
Setting Up A Tip Up
Choose the Right Type of Tip Up
- Classic: Ideal for covering wide areas. Choose hardwood models for a stable base or thermal models to insulate your hole from freezing and block out light.
- Rod Tip-Up: Great for deadsticking inside an ice shelter, holding your rod and signaling a bite when the rod blank bends.
- Automated Jigging: Actively jigs your bait automatically to help trigger bites from subtle or picky fish.
How to Set Up a Tip-Up
- Spool & Rig: Spool your reel with roughly 75 yd. of 20- to 30-lb. tip-up line, tie on a leader line, and attach your hook.
- Set the Depth: Attach a clip-on weight to reach the bottom, raise it a few inches, and place a bobber stop on the line right at the waterline.
- Deploy: Remove the weight, bait your hook, drop your line back into the water, and set your signal flag.
