This tripod was the reason I shot my 380 Bull elk this year at 500 yards, so I purchased the lighter one to have on hand for long treks. I highly recommend this item to give confidence to anyone on a big game hunt.
Only gift I asked for this Christmas. Partly for me but wanted to make my son's first deer hunt to be positive. Could not have been better experience. A successful hunt and perfect shot of his first deer. I wanted the carbon, but wife was not having extra cost, lol .. I feel like the heavier model actually is good for limiting recoil. I would have liked it camouflage.. seen one on Fred Eichler and it looked awesome. Anyway, just went out with family and was fun using for sighting in new rig and plinking was a great success. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants better groups at the range, comfortable and convenient hands free gun control, and wants to make that shot of a lifetime count.
Bought it for long range shooting on a big mag rifle,16 lbs. with scope. Everything's good EXCEPT when fully locked down the rifle will still jiggle up and down about 1" with the touch of a finger. Sent the first one back and the second is exactly the same.
Doesn't work for me. I EXPECT IT TO LOCK TIGHTLY!!! I have several camera tripods that are MUCH more efficient so now I'm looking for just a rifle clamp to lock down on one of those. For $250 w/tax I expected MUCH more. Why offer such a product if it won't lock down?
Obvious design flaw. Fix it and I'll buy another one... Sending this one back as well.
I bought my death grip on amazon for hog hunting. Fit my needs perfectly and did everything I needed. One evening I set it up for my wife’s niece to shoot her .22 and one of the upper clamps just came apart, seemed to be a failed cast. Called bog directly and they had no problem sending me a replacement and had it delivered within the week! Great product, great company!
Hi, I just bought and received my first Bog pod tri-po. I plan to use it for predator hunting, coyotes , fox, bobcats etc. I have a friend that has one and that’s what made me buy one after seeing how nice it is to have your rifle steady. I would recommend this to anyone that hunts.
I purchased the BOG Aluminum Tripod the first week of for bow season in WV. I am a retired police officer from NC., where I served as a SWAT Sniper for 16 Years. In September after purchasing the BOG Death Grip Tripod, I found that the BOG Aluminum Tripod is the best tripod that I have used. I wish that I would have known about the BOG DeathGrip Tripod during my time of service as SWAT SNIPER. The BOG Death Grip Tripod is the best tripod system that I have ever used. Thank You BOG for developing a tripod that is multifunctional for a wide use both in the Civilian world and law enforcement.
I bought this tripod for whitetail hunting and target shooting. I've used it with a crossbow and precision AR-10. This thing is packed with features you would find in a much more expensive setup. It adjusts to fit multiple platforms and is very sturdy in most shooting situations. the legs adjust to different lengths and lock at 3 different angles. Overall I've been very happy with it for the price its the best product out there. I've used it on the range and in hunting blinds and I love it. I have the carbon fiber model.
Industrial strength product. Clamps on my gun just fine even though the back end of the gun is heavier than the front. The clamp snugs it on nicely. It's a bit heavy to still hunt with, but I hunt from stands.
Using my BOG Deathgrip I was able to drop 2 deer in one day with the crossbow. Both fell within yards of being shot. Clean kills and no tracking. I sighted in my 30-06 and it held rock solid. Today I had my 8 year old grandson shooting 2 inch groups at 20 yards with a crossbow. His first time using a crossbow.
Bought the aluminum Deathgrip from Bass Pro last month and my buddies all thought I was nuts for paying over $150 for such a thing. But after spending less than 90 minutes at the range last weekend and yet completely sighted in 3 rifles with new optics on each one, they all becamr very interested in my new favorite long rifle accessory. My only concern has actually been expressed in a couple of other reviews above mine. The clamp is definitely high quality and capable of handling harsh conditions that you face while shooting. But I did get frustrated that my Winchester XPR 308 kept creeping up and almost of the clamp with each shot. The factory stock on that rifle isn't high quality, but I think the real problem stems from the clamp's sturdy design. That rifle stock has a moderate taper to it and the clamp has very minimal slack in it when being tightened down. While it works phenomenally with my Magpul Hunter stock on my Remington 700 chambered in 223, it has difficulty holding on to my 308 for more than 4 shots before I'm forced seat the rifle in the clamp again.
Picked up the BOG Death Grip for hunting prairie dogs in ND. It’s a stable platform and makes for stable shots at distance. I saw some complaints about stability however with the spikes deployed and the grip locked down I spent hours away from the gun in 30 mph winds without issue. If you want to compare it to a RRS Tripod it will fall short but for the price I haven’t seen anything else that even remotely comes close.
The BOG Death Grip works great for Prarie Dog hunting. Frees up the hands for spotting and lunch.
I bought the death grip a month or so ago for my daughter. She is using it for hunting and shooting in general. This thing surpassed every expectation I had of it. Very well built and easy to use. I would suggest if you are in the market to purchase this one.
I absolutely love this tripod with three exceptions: 1. I wish there were measurement lines on the legs, and 2. I wish that it had a beefy camera/spotting scope head that you can swap with the gun mount. 3. I wish it was available in camo. Otherwise, I love the robust legs, thick and solid. I highly recommend this tripod for shooting.
It was a present from a friend. The one that was purchased for me is not the carbon fiber. I lost my left arm last November with an amputation. The death grip works well but it’s a little heavy for me. I’ve only used it once but I was able to hit the bull’s-eye at 100 yards. I wish I didn’t known about the carbon fiber I would like to exchange the one I have for it. I would give it an excellent rating.
I not only shoot guns, but I shoot photography as well. This tripod is literally the best in my inventory. It’s light, robust and easy to use. In my opinion, it only has one flaw, the ability to quickly convert from weapon platform to camera platform. I do wish the screws and clips were made of “metal.” That being said, I love this tripod and know that it’s main intent to put rounds down range, so I give it 5-Stars!!!
Tried 2x so far w a Winchester M70 30/6. Experimented with for aft positioning of the rifle. After 1-2 shots the rifle slips in the mount. Wrote support no response after 2 days. Will try calling. Nice materials but unit does not function as I expected.
I bought this for shooting groundhogs in the later summer months when crouching and prone shooting is impossible from crop growth. My first time out with it I took a groundhogs head off at 231 yards with my 26" bull barrel Remington 700 at 16 power. This thing is rock solid and unbelievable quality. It is heavy but I didn't feel like shelling out for the carbon fiber variant. I have been shooting BOG sticks for years and this is a great addition.
I'm 6'7" tall. Been tall most of my life. I'm close to 50 now, used to making do. I bought this because the sales literature says it can to 59" in height. I cant get mine any taller than 53 1/8" to the shelf. I can if i use it like a mono pole. If I wanted to do that I wouldn't have bought it.
My rifle weighs like 12lbs. I hunt mainly at night during the summer. I don't use the pan brake but do use the tilt brake. When I see something I want to watch I'll lock the cross hair on it. If the something moves I'll investigate further.
The knobs are convenient and overall its been sturdy and well built. I just wish it was closer to the 59" height they advertise.
this tripod is awesome! The adjustability is fantastic, its super light weight so very easy to move, and the price is very reasonable. Anyone that claims to have a negative review of it doesnt know what there doing with shooting. This is one heck of a great product!
Recieved this product as a gift and I was super excited to recieve it. Getting it out of the box, it looked pretty good but after a few minutes of trying it out, I found that it 1the legs would not level even on level ground (one leg was an inch short); 2) the legs would not lock; 3) the stakes/studs on some legs didn't go completely into the rubber feet; 4) the head rotate and tilt did not lock; 5) leg locks screws, etc... were made of a cheap plastic; and 6) the screws were stripped from bog putting it together. Just overall was super disappointed in this for the price. I have other bog products that are great. Not sure what happened here. Sending it back.
Was able to fiddle with it before i purchased it. Wasnt keen on the weight, but after taking it home that seemed to subside with use. Clamps 95%~ of guns perfect, most pistols and some airguns need an extra pad on one side because the clamp "bottoms out" before it grips. Swiveling adjustments work great, easy to lock down the gun and zero a new sight with no problem. One of the small handfull of best purchases ive made for my guns. I recommend it 100% just be aware smaller guns wont clamp without extra padding.
Looks as described a little heavy but seems to be very steady. I bought this because of the versatility of the leg positions allowing you to shoot from prone through standing as a guide it allows me to carry only one set of sticks
I bought my death grip this last winter , and all I've got to say is wow, where u been my whole life, was sceptical at first cause my T/C is heavy in itself plus add the coyote cannon to it , it's a beast. Now only complaint is it seems a little on the heavy side at 8.5 lbs for Aluminum still saving for the carbon fiber. Spot on customer service and was responsive in getting back with the questions I had asked, very sturdy and these pics confirms that can hold up to the weight. Youd be crazy not to try then out..
Last years prairie dog hunt was a rough one. The very wet spring had caused the grass to grow tall and made shooting off of my portable bench problematic. I’m glad I had my bog pod, it was the real mvp during this trip. Only issue I have with it is the lack of attachment solutions, the clamp is a bit of a pain on my round hand guard. Only reason I’m giving it a 4 star instead of 5 star. Time will tell on the in field durability mine is the aluminum version.
Not my hunting friends are likening the tripod with my thermal set up. It was worried it would be more difficult to set i shooting position. My fears were going 1 minute after i unboxed it. I would love to show off some swag for your company maybe a hat or shirt. I don’t were products that do t stand behind their product. Awesome design.
I purchased this 2 weeks ago for coyote hunting and decided to try it out late season on a muzzleloader deer hunt. I quickly found out unless your hunting in a flat parking lot setup isn’t easy. And once you get it setup you have a swing of about 10yds then you have to pick up the monstrosity and move it and more than likely readjust it. For $250 any other product is better.
I used the aluminum tripod in my ground blind and it was awesome. I even use it at the range when I zero now. I own both versions only because it was a great deal for the carbon fiber tripod. No way would i spend $249 for the carbon fiber. Just buy the aluminum for the best value. The weight difference between mind isn’t noticeable enough to justify the $100 markup. Also I believe my aluminum is a more stable platform. The aluminum is 5 stars and the carbon fiber is 4 stars.
Tripod works great and pretty solid. The saddle is lacking. The saddle does tend to have some slippage due to lack of fitting a tappered stock. I use a another peace of rubber as a shim and it locks it down. If they would allow for it to adjust to a tappered stock and a maybe different rubber material used inside the saddle. That would greatly improve clamping strength of the saddle. Wishing the saddle was removable as well but its not. For the price its not to bad. These mods shouldnt change the price of the sysem and would get yall alot of praise in all fields of shooting. The tripod would be able to compete with the top dogs and be very cost friendly to us. consumers.
We bought this at Bass Pro and it was missing one of the tiny c-clamps that hold in place one of the four metal pins in the clamp/ saddle. Obviously it is frustrating to unbox something that is missing parts, however I am kind of glad it was missing because I was able to experience first hand the service behind the product. I called the number provided in the manual and talked to a real person from the U.S. I couldn't be more pleased with the customer service that I experienced. The product is great and I hope that it holds up well. I believe it will, and considering the cost I believe this to be a good budget option as competitor products cost twice as much.
