Previously Asked Questions
Yes, you must run your GT34 transducer through the Garmin GCV 20 Scanning Sonar to use it with the Garmin GPSMAP 743xsv Chartplotter. While this chartplotter is an "xsv" model and features built-in traditional, ClearVü, and SideVü sonar, its internal sonar is designed for standard CHIRP frequencies. It does not support the extreme high frequencies (0.8 MHz to 1.2 MHz) required by the GT34. The GCV 20 acts as a dedicated black-box sonar module that houses the necessary Ultra High-Definition hardware. You plug the GT34 directly into the GCV 20, and then connect the GCV 20 to your chartplotter via the Garmin Marine Network using an Ethernet cable.
