I mounted it to my transom on the back of my boat. This gives me a better view of fish under my boat and then out in front of my boat. This is replacing my Garmin Striker 4 that came with my boat, so I use it for my navigation and is my only fish finder on my boat. I mainly fish for walleye, perch, channel cats, and crappie. So I usually troll with spinners and bottom bouncers or vertical jigging. It is a great help in locating fish and move to troll that area or I can see them chase my lure while jigging below my boat. Also I really like the Genesis Live mapping so I can get a nice detail of the smaller lakes around me. Very nice detail, I can actually identify the fish species on the larger fish. Saw a very distinct image of a walleye passing in front and then moved under my boat eventually catching it on one of my bottom bouncers 60 ft behind my boat. Nice 24\" slot fish which unfortunately had to be released. In terms of resolution, yes. Overall performance, no. You're getting a much smaller angle of view for both down and forward mode. On the same hand, this thing is under $1000! That's an impressive price for what it offers. Not needing a sonar module (black box) makes it extremely nice for a guy who wants to be super portable.
