I have found that the Recon fits perfectly if I order a half size larger than normal, remove the foot bed and replace it with a Danner foot bed. I think that because of the insulation it is a tighter fit and so requires a larger size. Anyway it is an outstanding boot and works just as well in the heat as it does in the cold.If the Marines endorse it, then you know it has to be good.
Lucky for me Danner boots fit me very well. I have owned Danner boots for a long long time. The Quarry boots have been my go to. I'm excited to see how long my new Recon boots hold up. Thank you Danner.
Size 10.5, width EE, 200g insulation. These are my daily winter boots, usually including about 60 minutes of bicycle riding, rain/snow/etc or shine. I've had them resoled twice and the boot still feels like it has years to go. Order half a size low like everyone says -- I'm an 11 sneaker. I have comically wide feet, five or six E's, and the EE width stretched out nicely to fit me. (Gotta love leather.)
I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and when I somehow wear this pair out, I will be back on this website.
Best boot ever! I have owned several pair of Danner Recons and Acadia boots. Break-in, if you could call it that, is just the flex of the outsole. Right out of the box, my Danner boots have ALL been so comfortable to wear, that I could easily pull 16 hour days pounding the concrete. I worked in corrections for 24 years and have tried “other” brands, but none were as long-wearing or as comfortable as my Danners. I am retired, now, but I just bought a new pair of Recons. Waterproof! Waterproof! Never had a pair leak! Since buying my first pair of Danner boots, all my shoes and boots have been the Danner brand. THE BEST BOOT! MADE IN THE USA!
These boots are very well made. I went a half size down to an 8.5 from my sneaker size 9 and it was perfect. It’s slightly narrow around the toe box but with use I’m sure they’ll feel just right. Very well supported boot.
It would be the best fit if they would make them in a 12.5. That would be perfect but with a half size bigger leaves plenty of room for thicker socks and yes by far one of the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn.
I’ve been sold on this boot sense 1985. First pair was given to me in the Marine Corps. I’ve tried others but they don’t compare. I get a new pair each year, wear them about 12 to 14 hours a day. In snow, rain, dirt, walking and hunting. My feet are dry and and warm in the winter. I’m all ways telling some one to get a pair. I explain that for the price of what they buy in boots each year they could of paid for one pair of this boot and had less fatigue and back aches. Awesome boot you have!!!
I first purchased the Fort Lewis boots in 11D but they were way too loose in the calf, ankle and the toe. I was surprised by this since I have worn an 11D for 30 years in Wesco, Redwing and other boot makers. I tried to remedy the issue by purchasing extra thick socks from Darn Tough and a thick Carhartt footbed. It was a fail so I had to send the boots back. Since Danner makes returns a breeze, I thought about it for 6 months while I researched other black duty boots. I did not find anything else out there made in the USA like the Recon and Fort Lewis boots so I went back and noticed that both boots on the Danner website say this "Please note this last fits slightly long and we recommend sizing down a half size for best fit". I was skeptical since I have always wore 11D but I followed their recommendation and purchased 2 pairs of the Recon boots in 10.5D and much to my surprise and delight, both pairs are a perfect fit and I am VERY happy with my purchase. I highly recommend this boot!
