I used the true fit tool on the Scheels website to determine which size to get. Normally I have to get my boots in a wide size but the tool recommended regular fit with these boots so that is what I ordered. The boots were a little tight at first but after wearing them for a couple days around the house and yard they stretched just enough to make them fit perfect. I wore the boots for a week out hunting a a area that is extremely rocky and the boots were great, never had sore feet and the support kept me from stumbling in the loose rocks. The kenetrek videos on boot lacing options showed me how to lace the boot and really lock the heel in without putting pressure on the top of my foot, for me this really improved walking up and down the mountains.
I purchased these boots for my first trip to Kodiak Alaska. I probably wore them for 3-4 miles before taking them out in the Alaska bush. They kept my feet dry and I didn’t have any blisters or hit spots. The terrain on Kodiak was tough but these boots handled it with ease.
This is my second pair of Kennetrek’s. I just took them to South Dakota walk in hunting and laced them up for the first time in SD. I logged 85+ miles for the first trip break in. No issues. Great support, comfort, and durability.
As a forester who cruises timber in steep WV mountain terrain 5 days a week, they are comfortable out of the box, which normally indicates a boot will break down or break in too much and loose it’s rigidity and stability in steep uneven terrain, however these are amazingly comfortable while being tough, snug, and stable for steep grades and rough mountain miles through timber woods.
I’ve hunted/hiked for years in Keen boots, and they are good boots that served me well. But, when I invested in the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme, I realized there was a totally new level of hunting boot. There really is no comparison in terms of support, ruggedness, traction, quality, etc. I can hike in rough country all day with the Kenetrek boots with no issues. They do take a few miles to wear in, but definitely a game changer. Totally worth the investment.
Hands down these boots are are the most comfortable boot I have ever owned. I do tree work in these everyday for the last three years, just had them resoled now going into my fourth year with them, still like a pair of socks when you put them on. I have had to friends now buy a pair and both say the same thing BEST investment they ever did with their feet...
These boots are absolutely incredible. I ordered them for the upcoming season and received them about a week or so ago. I also purchased the Kenetrek waterproofing cream and waterproofed the boots after about 2 days of wearing the boots around the house. Little did I know that Texas would get a freak storm the following day, but despite having no power or water these boots were perfect for me to be able to get out and help the neighborhood, trudge through the snow (not a normal TX activity), help distribute water, shovel snow, etc. Despite being uninsulated I was warm and dry after all day in ~10 degree weather and stomping through ice and snow all day. These boots are incredible, waterproof, and warm enough for down to 8 degrees for me. They showed up just days before a serious storm in Texas and without them, I would not have been able to help my neighbors and family as much as I was able to. My only regret was not ordering my wife a pair as well. Thank you Kenetrek!
Love this boot. I used them for a late elk season this year in some rugged country. This was my first time using them. They didn't let me down. I've used many other popular brands only to have my feet and ankles wear out before the day was over. Not so with these Kenetrek boots. Put in some serious miles with heavy packs and never had to worry about blisters or swollen ankles. Looking forward to many miles in the future.
I have been using top end boots for many years from other boot makers. These are my new favorites! Great fit for my feet with solid support. I chose the uninsulated because my feet tend to sweat even when really cold. I have been wearing these out in sub-0 weather for several hours at a time being active and my feet are comfortable. Might need an insulated pair for sitting treestands or ice fishing though...
These boots deserve the praise they are getting by the other reviewers. However, there is one more thing -- due to an old bone-break and other issues I need very good cushioning under my feet. With some boots, you take the insole out and the bottom of the boot feels like a piece of wood under the liner. Not so with the Mountain Extremes or the Hard Scrabble (I can't say about the Guide, etc.). The ME's and HS's have just the right amount of "give" in their platforms. Combined with the very good insole that comes in the boots, they are all extremely comfortable. With proper lacing mine were a perfect fit right out of the box, no break-in needed. The hardware is the best I have ever seen on a boot, and that can really matter. That Kenetreks provide so much support and comfort while still being very light in weight is incredible. They are worth every penny you pay for them.
These boots are incredible and with proper leather care, will last forever. They are stiff out of the box, partly because of what they are designed for, but once you log 30 or so miles, they are married to your feet. For mountaineering boots, look no further.
So I bought these boots because of the reviews and Randy Newburg recommend them. I have hiked over 20 miles in these. When they say they are the most comfortable boots ever out of the box they are correct. No break in required. Best boots ever.
My brother got a pair of these a few years ago and swore by them. Like many other reviews, I was hesitant about the price, but took his advice and 'cried once'. These things will last forever. Even if you wear them out they can be rebuilt for the cost of a cheap pair of boots. Customer service was excellent. I ordered an 11.5 (I went into a store and had my foot measured) and wore them with a liner and Canadian sock. They're supposed to be snug but I felt mine were too snug. They talked me through that and exchanged them for a 12. They fit perfectly and I always wear the sock system. I just got done hunting in CO for 7 days and my feet only hurt one time... after a 3.5-hour pack out with a full mule deer in my pack. And even then it was just my left arch. I'll be looking into whether I need a different insole. If you're a serious hunter and spend hundreds of dollars on clothes, just buy the boots. Your feet are more important than that new layer you probably can wait on.
You should also mention in the description that these boots are great for foresters, these are the best boot hands down in the rugged terrain of WV, I know of many foresters that have switched to these as their boot for timber cruising. I’ve tried several higher end boots and the kennetreks are the ones to buy, not cheap but you get what you pay for and they last professional foresters years in the woods everyday.... they are hands down the most comfortable boot, I can be in steep, rocky ground all day marking timber and my feet are fine wearing these boots.
This is my first season owning a pair of Kenetreks. I'm hooked. Boots held up great to 10 days of side hilling in MT. Hunted everyday from dark to dark and these things were very comfortable. Quality is unmatched. Walked through rain, mud and streams my feet stayed dry. (Do yourself a favor and buy the Kenetrek's boot wax as recommended). I can't wait to use these for pheasant hunting in MN.
Comfortable right out of the box. I have about 20 miles on them so far part of that hiking time was in a rocky creek with no leaks so far and no slipping on the wet rocks. I did treat the boots with Kenetrek boot wax that did darken the leather a little but that is not a problem. Thus far I like the boots a lot. Time will tell as to durability,
I ordered these boots kinda skeptical I got them and absolutely love them I did have some sizing issues witch was my fault and what absolutely sold me on them is the incredible customer service I will definitely be purchasing all of my boots from this company it is just unmatched
So recently I tested every boot that I’ve ever heard of. A friend told me from the start to go with Kenetrek. Due to them being behind (on my size, 14) during Christmas, I couldn’t immediately start with them and their price tag kinda made me nervous. I felt like I could get “as good” of a boot for $150-200 Less. And I tried that. There was only one other boot company that was even close to Kenetrek as far as comfort goes but as far as durability goes, no where close. So I cried once and put in my order for my first pair of $500 boots. I’ll be honest, I was scared and very hesitant. After 3 days they came in. First off they didn’t look like the photos online. They looked WAY better. I had heard they would need a break in period. Maybe for some, not for me. I put these babies on and instantly I was in LOVE. As a former pro athlete with many injuries, my foot health determines my overall health. With that being said, I’ve never put on a better shoe/boot/slipper or any type of footwear. I’ve worn these on incredibly tough terrain, the toughest terrain actually, and on date night with my wife. Every time I put them on, they are more comfortable than the last. I don’t want to say any other companies names bc they are still great companies but just bc they say made in Italy and they look alike, doesn’t mean they are. Kenetrek has figured it out and I’m so grateful they have! I will be buying only Kenetreks from here on out.
In the last year I’ve tried every popular and unpopular boot on the market. I tried every boot at REI, and I’ve tried a bunch of the Crispi boots. There are a lot of great boot manufacturers out there but none have impacted my life like these Kennetreks mountain extremes NI. I am a former pro baseball player and my body/joints have been beat to crap. So footwear has become incredibly important. These boots get worn everywhere! I finally feel what’s it’s like to have a stable comfortable boot and I love them. I thought the higher 10 inch shank would annoy me, but no chance, they are perfect.
Final thought: Everyone needs a pair of these. Also customer service is amazing. Can’t go wrong here. I will purchase a pair of the insulated boots once I can save enough pennies. No doubt they are expensive but now that I know how they work, I’d be willing to pay more. Thank you Kennetrek!
They are quality boots, but they are way too stiff to use as a hunting boot in western Washington. These may work well walking on grassy slopes in Montana when you are rifle hunting and can shoot a long way, but are not good for archery hunting. I cannot sneak with these on at all, because they break every stick that i step on, and i cannot feel anything under my feet. The insulated 10.5 Mediums that I sent in on warranty fit tighter than the non-insulated 10.5 M i ask for in exchange. They don't fit that well and too stiff. I chose to hunt my late buck season in my under armor speed hikers with wet feet instead. I'm considering exchanging them for a more flexible boot like Danner Canadians.

I noticed the last couple years, that the arch of my feet was hurting after big hunts. I hunt big game, and spend hundreds of miles following my English Pointers after Chukar. I needed a boot that would not demand so much from my arch. I visited a store and tried on a pair of Mountain Extreme Uninsulated and was astonished at how good they felt. I have piles of worn out 200$ Danner boots, so the price did not hinder my decision to give the Kenetrek boot a try. I've had them 10 days, put on 21 miles in steep rocky chukar habitat and my feet are so Happy! I've worn Kenetrek socks for years, liner and the mid or heavy weight. I do not have foot fatigue or any hot spots. I'm interested in how many seasons I'll get out of this boot, but judging by the sole, I bet it is several. Thanks for a great product !! My next purchase will be the same boot in 1,000 gram thinsulate.
I am about to embark on my 5th and final year with the best boot I have ever worn. I hunt the Oregon Coast exclusively, in the winter I target predators like Mountain Lion and Coyotes, in the spring I am shed hunting, the summer is filled with scouting missions and more predator hunting while September is my favorite month spend chasing bugling Roosevelt bulls and velvet blacktail and finally fall is when I help friends and family rifle hunt. I used to spend $200 dollars a year on boot and never had a pair keep my feet dry all year. I spent a little more on my Kenetreks and in 5 years the only time my feet have got wet is when I forgot my gators and the water wicked in. These are hands down 100% the best boot I have ever purchased. If there’s anywhere that will test the waterproofing and toughness of a boot it’s the Oregon Coast. After 5 years I will send this pair in to be resoled then handed down to my son and purchase another pair.
The price point of these boots was a major hurdle for me. After trying what I thought were similar boots I ended up with these. After taking several day trips as a break in. I went on a 10 day hunt, hiking 4 - 8 miles a day with a heavy pack. My feet were the only thing that didn't hurt, and the boots look and feel no worse for wear. I'll be purchasing another pair of insulated boots in the future. GREAT PRODUCT!
Having Hunted over 60 yrs. I have had a lot of different brands. Purchased these when visiting my Sister in Bozeman and after break-in, was very surprised. Just returned after 32 days in the Idaho Sawtooths ( yes i am retired) Hunting, these are the most comfortable and supportive boots I have ever owned..bar none !! Not cheap, but good stuff never is..will be buying some hikers next. GREAT Boots
Great boots, very little break in period. Solid construction that is resolable. This company stands behind thier product. I bought this pair for work and everyday wear. My original pair is 13 years old and has been rebuilt once. Awesome boots
These boots are simply the best footwear I have ever owned. As a flatlander (coming from TX) I was worried about how my feet would do hunting in the rocky mountains. After a week and over 70 miles through tough country (on average gained 2000 feet in elevation per day) my feet felt great. NO hot spots or blisters. I was also able to keep traction in areas I probably shouldn't have been in due to crazy steepness and snow/ice.
I got laid off from the ethanol plant I work at last Thursday. They closed the doors. Found a new job that day and started today. Now I’m doing line clearance tree trimming around power transmission lines and I’m thrilled! I can do almost anything when my feet don’t hurt. I’ve worn steel toed boots for years. And my feet hurt constantly. I wanted the best.
Well by God I got the best!
I stopped into my local Scheels after reading of, and about Kenetrek boots. I actually laughed out loud at the almost $500 boots... but that was short lived. My usual salesman said they are the best, but you pay for it... He had me try on a pair and oh my. They cradle my tender feet like a newborn. I put in a pair of the Guide insoles from Superfeet and I’m not impressed...I’m frankly AMAZED! They’re more comfortable than Crocs. That’s something. I wore them around the house yesterday afternoon and that was my break in period. I put them on at 5 AM today, and didn’t take them off until 7:30 PM. And I was up dragging brush and trimming trees all day. I did not want to take them off. I feel good enough I could go dancing yet tonight. I had on a pair of Darn Tough merino wool socks and my feet stayed dry and comfortable all day and it hit 80-something today. Don’t care what the temp was...my feet are fantastic! Seriously. I’m not wealthy. I have seven daughters and I get paid hourly. I bought both the Mountain Extreme non insulated and the 400. GET THEM
I was skeptical of spending the money on a pair on Kenetrek Mtn Extremes. Broke them in while living in the Midwest, and finally wore them out to a scouting trip in Colorado. Absolutely blown away by the comfort and durability of these boots. After 6 days in the backcountry I had no hot spots, and was easily able to scale rocks while glassing for high country mule deer above tree line. Awesome boot and worth every penny.
