I like the tighter fit from knee to cuff of the Free Ryder, as well as all the other little touches Kuhl builds into these pants - the articulated knees, the ‘peached’ waste band, the gusseted crotch for greater freedom of movement, double fabric at heel and pockets, the patina dye process that slowly fades (though they wear like iron!, and the new button closure (especially)!! I own about 7 pairs of these - there’s a great choice of colours (especially like the teak and moss). Then, this year, I happened to see a pair of Kuhl pants on a rack with an actual button. After jumping on the Kuhl website and reading a review that mentioned the switch to a real button, I ended up ordering this pair (ordering is the only option because no store carries a 28). These pants are finally as good as they should have been years ago. They are my work pants, but I wear them constantly. The fit is perfect through the waist and legs. As much as I love this pair, it's still incredibly annoying that Kuhl used the stupid snap for so long. If they want a real customer for life, they should take back the defective pants I already bought and fix them. Likewise, kuhl should make good on my pair of Haut Ryders where the 28 fits like a boy's pant (as compared to the 3 other pairs of 28 waist kuhl pants i have that fit perfectly). Kuhl also needs to work on their review request emails. Once you type the whole review, it tries to transfer you to the kuhl website and errors out. Even entering this review, the button to expand the text box doesn't work. Basically, kuhl can only make clothes. I like having a side pocket for my readers and they have fit me well. These (3 pair) are about 1” bigger in the waist than prior pairs. Lightweight and durable these pants perform they’re quite well-made double stitched and built to last. I wanted to like them, but they are just so stiff. I have the Ryder Lite pants as well, and those feel much better. I would return them if I could, but Kuhl doesn't take returns once the tags have been removed. I hate owning too many options, and have not found a pair of non-denim pants that fit, feel or perform the way these do. The fit is excellent - I wouldn't say \"slim,\" I'd say perfectly tailored, not baggy, just right. I'd even take them for a quick day or overnight hunt.
