I have well over 2,000 miles biked in them and only now have some non-essential seams ripped on the front thigh. The ankle cinches are great for biking and keep the fabric out of the way. It’s an odd thing to rave about pockets, but Kuhl has mastered that art… you can carry two 6-packs with these pants. YOU CAN FIT OVER A GALLON OF BEER IN THESE PANTS. That’s big time. They breathe well and dry quickly if you get caught in the rain, great for year-round use. I’m still as comfortable biking in these in December as I was in May. Might be TMI but my body chemistry doesn’t mesh well with most polyester; any sweat and things smell rank quickly. These are different. I can work up a sweat in these and not fear large crowds in enclosed spaces. That comes in clutch on bikepacking or camping trips when the closest thing you’ve had to a shower in 4 days was a drinking fountain. The biggest downside is that I own three pairs, and all three are different. Not a dealbreaker since I was able to size up and solve the issue, but I burnt $100 finding that out. The pair I got in Summer 2024 from REI is the pair I’ve worn the most. I recently got a second pair from REI in December. Same size, but fit a heck of a lot tighter overall and the fabric felt more restrictive. Obviously, fabric wears in after a year of abuse, but I would never have bought these in the first place if my 2024 pair fit like that new… something changed. I then bought a pair directly from Kuhl one waist size up and find them pleasantly roomy, but not too baggy. The material also feels more alike to my first pair. Other changes they made (again, without telling anyone they made them) were making the tops of the pockets stretchier and opened the shape of them more. I’d also say the thigh zippered pockets feel a tad smaller. I’m happy again so long as things don’t change again. I wear them hiking, camping, and backpacking. They also look good enough to wear casually as well. The pocket layout and features suit me perfectly. I love having a zippered wallet pocket but a non-zippered left rear pocket to clip a pocket knife. The zippered vents are handy, and the material is comfortable. Now the product is sold under the same name but the same size fits differently (waist and seat too small) and I can't buy an inch up because the retailer only carries even sizes. Unless Kuhl starts paying for free return shipping there's no way I'm risking wasting my time and money buying directly from you. I've already wasted enough time as it is.
