I love these shorts (12” inseam). I am 6’4” and wish they came in 13” inseam. Great style and fabric. I have two pair now. The side pockets are perfect for phone, sunglasses and my minimalist wallet. Kuhl hit a home run with their renegade shorts. Perfect for a hike, golfing or at home. Wear with a button shirt for a dressy casual look.
I've switched to using Kuhl synthetic pants for almost everything, but hadn't tried the shorts. I'd been using the quicksilver amphibious shorts and other similar ones. These Kuhl ones are just WAY better. Just as light and stretchy, but with better construction and a finish that makes them look nice, whether I'm in the woods sweating my brains out or need to dress up with a polo shirt. Inseam is slightly longer than expected (I measured first) so will be getting the 8" ones next time for some variety.
I bought a pair of Renegades a couple of years ago (at least that's what I think they are as they have all of the same pockets as the pair I just got), and they're much better than the new versions.
I didn't realize that the material had been significantly changed. The original pair I bought was a bit softer and cotton-like. These shorts are almost like board short/swim trunk material, and they're just as loud when I walk!
They also seem to be cut slightly bigger around the thighs, but that may just be because the the material is a bit more rigid and doesn't conform the way a softer material would.
One positive is I think they'll be better in the rain.
My husband and I love these shorts! They fit perfectly, the fabric is wonderful, they wash beautifully, have the perfect number of pockets and are extremely comfortable. The are so nice looking on. I bought a pair in a smaller size as I cannot find a hiking short for women that has the right inseam length or has the right pockets. I love the choice of inseams for men. I bought 2 different men's sizes as I didn't know what would fit me. I returned one size and the return process was VERY easy and fast.
I've loved the Kuhl hiking shorts I have owned for years, and it occurred to me that I needed more than one pair. I love that you offer multiple inseams for those of us shorter of stature, and the pockets are sized for modern cellphones.
I have now purchased my fourth pair of Renegade shorts. They are the best shorts I have ever owned. There is so much intelligence that has gone into the design and construction of this product. The fabric is very comfortable and durable. I love the combination of softness and toughness. The small thoughtful details are impressive. This includes the pocket design which is perfect for my needs. I can put my IPhone in the left phone pocket, sunglasses or pens in the right slash pocket, keys and reading glasses in the hand pockets, and still have room for smaller items in the two front zipper pockets. A minor quibble is that I wish the pulls were slightly bigger. For me, it takes both hands to zip and unzip these pockets. I like that the back pockets are velcro. The stitching and overall construction adds to the comfort. The shorts are slim and attractive with the options and capacity of cargo shorts but without the bulkiness. There are great "earthy" color options. Even the labeling is subtle and attractive. The detail of the small hook below the back belt loop is convenient for hanging the shorts. I also like that the belt loops are large enough for wide belts. As far as sizing the odd waist sizes are good for me since a 34 is sometimes to small and a 36 is sometimes too large. The 35 inch option is perfect for me. I do wish though that there odd sizes for the inseam. The 10 inch is slightly to long for me and the 8 inch is too short.
I have a pair of dark grey Kuhl shorts, and I wanted to order another pair in a different size. This one looked grey in the picture, but turned out to be brown. I had to ship it back, and order the one that looks black/navy in the picture. I'm hoping that's the one that's really dark grey.
I’ve been wearing Kuhls for years. Best, most durable outdoor pants / shorts I have ever owned. I even use the to work and they are more durable than any other work pants I have tried. Expensive but they last a long time.
These shorts are the first I've worn that have stood up to every challenge thrown their way! Looking stylish at work and providing tons of room with their amazing pocket design has left me feeling capable in every indoor and outdoor activity. My old pair unfortunately we're destroyed in an accident, but I was sure to get a new pair as soon as I could because I couldn't live without them!
Great on pocket numbers and design and depth. Flawless fabrication is appreciated always especially for online ordering. This trust is built for the consumer, and is especially important to me in the higher priced products. Using this product for hiking, backpacking, as well as everyday. Cheers from We The North!
I bought these for my husband and ended up buying three pairs. They are lightweight and comfortable and have a size 35 which is not common. He is 510 and the large hits just above the knee. for boating or casual dining out. For the price they seem to be durable after washing.
My husband is 6'4" tall and loves the 12" inseam. Other shorts are not long enough for his taste. The shorts are very high quality and have a nice stretch to them. He says they are super comfortable and owns 3 pairs. Perfect for summer as they are lightweight and dry fast. His go-to shorts every day for anything he is doing from hiking to biking to going to the grocery store and everything else in-between. Don't hesitate. Buy the shorts. You won't be disappointed.
