The Scheels Outfitter Highwood Insulated Parka was an awesome addition to my hunting wardrobe. I do a lot of bow hunting and this parka is the most comfortable, quiet, and warm. I’m very satisfied and would highly recommend this product.
I got this to use when hunting in cold weather and it performed great this fall, I never once felt cold. If you are doing a lot of strenuous hiking it might get pretty hot but that was to be expected from this heavy of a jacket.
I really like this jacket. Bought a xxl so I can layer. Very quiet and comfortable. Down side to this jacket is the front zipper. Hard to zip at times because it catches. I would have give a 5 star if it wasn't for the zipper. Good price for a comfortable hunting jacket.
I am over all pretty happy with the jacket it's self. With layers I can hunt in pretty much any weather Michigan can dish out. A couple complaints though... 1.) For bow season it is noisy. The outer fleece layer is great but the inner insulation layer is almost squeaky. 2.) The camo pattern "West River" is way to bring. I feel like a white blob in a tree stand. That's my mistake. Would be great as snow cover. They did not have this jacket in the "Verdant" pattern otherwise I would have bought that. I also bought the full Antler River suit in the same West River camo pattern but I will attempt a return or exchange when/if the Verdant camo pattern becomes available. For early Season I would not go with the West River pattern.
Good coat I should have gotten an xxl. I’m 5’11 200 and with some layers on it will be somewhat tight not to bad but would like some extra rm. Length is perfect passed waist and arm length is good as well. Warm
Very warm and the outside is quiet. Inside fabric is a little noisy but not bad. Was out in 10 degrees this morning and stayed nice and toasty. Zippers aren’t the best quality but decent. Pockets are big with lots of storage. I would buy them again
This is a great jacket. I was very warm on opening morning this year. It was about 25 degrees with a light breeze. Later in the week it got up to about 55 degrees and I was very hot and had to leave the jacket unzipped just to stay cool enough. The camo is a good pattern for late fall in the Midwest after the leaves fall. If the leaves are still on the trees, I would go with the west river verdant pattern because it has a lot more green in it.
Bought this Highwood insulated jacket and bibs and overall the fitment is great but the jacket and bibs are really noisy when its cold out. The insulation layer combined with the inner layer fabric makes a lot more noise than I care for, and when it's dead quiet out every breath you take is noticeable when the fabric moves. ( I'm sure the Antler river series is quieter without the insulation ). The inside pocket material sounds like plastic on both the jacket and bib. Onto the veil camo pattern, I only hunt from hang on tree stands and I would not recommend this camo pattern for anyone the hunts from a hang on, I've been immediately spotted by every deer that comes in close enough to get a look. This is probably a great pattern if you're hunting on the ground or in the snow but not for a bow hunter that needs a close range shot. The pattern is a lot whiter than what the picture shows here online.
I used my new parka and bibs while hunting this season. Temps were around 15 degrees and they kept me warm with my layers with no issue. I really like the Camo pattern and the material is very quiet. I bought the Scheels Outfitters wool bibs and parka at the same time to compare. I think the extra $75 for the Highwood parka and bibs was worth it in a direct comparison. I would buy again.
Very good camo gear. I love this stuff. It has kept me warm in weather down below freezing, dry in a snow shower, and it is just plain comfortable to wear. It is very feature loaded and an excellent value for the money. They really thought about the hunter when they made this stuff and it shows. Oh and one more thing, the camo pattern is pretty cool too!!!
Spent the last couple nights up in a tree in single digit temperatures. The highwood parka layered with the musselshell top and the antler river bib did the job! I'm really loving the Big Game Collection. It's keeping me in the tree longer and THAT is a big thing.
