I haven’t had a chance to use my jacket yet but, it is everything I was looking for. I normally wear an XL and the XL fit perfect. Packed it down into its stuff sack and it takes up very little space in my pack. I plan to order the pants to go with the jacket for the packing ability and great quality. Can’t wait to use it on my hunts this fall.
Way warmer than my previous down jacket and much lighter. The one feature that I think is perfect is the hood. When wearing a hat the hood fits perfectly. I got this toward the end of winter/early spring so it hasn’t really seen cold weather or days in the field but so far it seems to be great.
I have not had it in the field yet due to it being the off season however I did have it on at my kids ice hockey game in an unheated rink. I was amazed how quickly I felt the "warm up" and this was without the hood. No doubt in my mind this was a good purchase and with the hood I will be able to stay out glassing longer than with my old synthetics.
I purchased the Grumman jacket to replace a different 12 year old down coat. I live in the Northern Adirondack mountains where temperature and weather can vary rapidly. After using the Grumman jacket for late fall hunting, skiing, ice fishing, winter camping (down to -15 F), and general wear I am amazed how a jacket this light and packable could be so warm. I am 6’, weigh between 190 and 210 depending on season with broad shoulders and the xl fits perfect, with enough room to layer underneath, but not too baggy. After looking at all the usual suspects I’m glad I decided to go with the Grumman.
Great jacket that is warm and light. I got the two-tone green and brown but the brown looks a little more gold than I would like. Would like this jacket in solid green or brown vice a combo. The material is also a tad shiny so not sure if game will pick it up or not.
A+++. Had to exchange from XL to Large and that experience was a breeze, super fast shipping. The jacket is so light and yet so dang warm. Truly amazing piece, everyone should have this jacket in their pack.
Ounce for ounce, I believe this is the best lightweight down jacket on the market. You won't find a lighter weight jacket with this much down anywhere. This is a well thought out piece of kit, they saved weight where it makes sense in the cuffs, hemline, no chest pocket. But they went with sturdy zippers and even included a hood drawstring. My only two minor gripes: would appreciate a longer cut in the back for more coverage while seated/bending. And the Pertex Quantum fabric isn't the flattest fabric on the market - there is a bit of sheen.
Well constructed -impressive quality. This think is warm and wind resistant. I have not put it through the gamut of a hunt yet -but I am confident it will be an excellent addition to my clothing system.
Super impressed with this jacket. Fit is good, jacket is surprisingly warm for how light it is. Have worn it in temps of -5 with wind and the jacket cut the wind and kept me comfortable. Yes, it is expensive but you absolutely get what you pay for. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.
So far so good with my Grumman jacket. It’s exactly what I expected. A lightweight, minimalist puffy. I called the guys at the shop to help with sizing and am really happy. For reference, I went with a medium and I am 5-11 about 160 lbs. Medium fits well enough to wear the jacket around town and still has room for layering and wearing it over my bino harness.
This jacket is extremely warm for its weight. The fit is perfect. The Grumman will always be in my pack, and I like how it comes with its own stuff sack. I’ve learned to spend a little more money and buy quality. Stone Glacier will not disappoint!
Its a fantastic addition to my layering system. The jacket itself fits well - I am a 6'3 - 200 LB slim build - Male - the Large is excellent fitting for layering. The sleeves are a good length. The waist in the jacket (the base) also allows for ample movement. The Medium size is a much tighter fitting jacket that wasn't as suited to my build.
This puffy is one of the best, if not the best insulation layers on the market. It's claims in it's Specs are spot on. The down is full and fills every bit of the jacket. It was perfect for the freezing mornings and even lasted me through about mid day before it got too hot. Absolutely worth the cost.
I have yet to use this jacket. I did however try it on as soon as it arrived to check the fit & feel. Fit was great, I’m 6’3” 180lbs - I ordered an XL based on advice I received from the staff at SG. PERFECT!! It feels like a comfortable jacket and in the small amount of time that I had it on, I have no doubt that this is a quality insulator. 👍👍
Granted I run hot, but I can't wear the jacket inside for more than literally about a minute. I've had it for maybe two weeks and have already worn it in 20 F, with 20-30 mph blowing snow, with just a t-shirt and light wool vest on underneath, hood up and it's like summertime inside! And it is literally feather light. Keep up the great work SG!!
This jacket is an amazing product. After doing a backcountry sheep and goat hunt this year with a friend that had one I knew I would purchase one as soon as I got back. This jacket alone out preformed anything I had I had ever used. Every product I have tried from SG has far surpassed my expectations. I’m sorry extremely happy I found SG and won’t be look back.
First off hats off to the crew at stone glacier. There customer service is top notch and one of the main reasons I chose SG. On to the jacket. I’m 5”10 190 with an Athletic build the size large fits well it is a little tight around the hips and bunches slightly when I raise my arms. Also the fabric stains pretty easy and isn’t as shinny as the pictures make out to be. When it is in natural light there isn’t much of a shine to it(This is nitpicking) I am seeing some feather loss as I’ve been wearing this jacket everyday. I will be curious to see how the DWR goose treated down holds up to rain. But I know SG will stand behind it.I weighted mine at a little over 12 oz. I think this jacket checks the all the boxes. Its super light weight, very warm packs down small.
Bought the jacket and pants for hunting. I plan on taking a lighter sleeping bag and relying on the Grumman when it gets really cold. So far I have only been skiing with the jacket but it is crazy light, warm and fits well. A big improvement over my old synthetic puffy.
I tried a LOT of down jackets trying to find the right one - this ended up being the best one for me. Fit is great: I'm 6ft2 230 and the XL is perfect on me. I almost bought an Arc'teryx Cerium LT before this, but it was too short in the front. The Grumman is a similar fit but slightly longer in the front and back. It's insanely light and packable and warm; the only thing that isn't perfect for me are the sleeve cuffs which are slightly scratchy feeling, but in cold temps I always wear gloves so that's a non-issue. Highly recommended
I am 6'3' and 180lb and originally ordered a L but returned it for a M. I like the fit of the M better, and I can still layer underneath. Super warm, and comfy. Looking forward to taking it into the field, but right now loving just wearing it around town.
This is the warmest, lightest puffy I have ever experienced. If you are a backcountry hunter obsessed with reducing weight, while having the most warmth and technology in a jacket, I highly recommend the SG Grumman. Simply the best! Thank you SG!
Lightest, most water resistant down jacket I’ve had
The Grumman is my favorite piece for late season anything. It compresses down ridiculously small and goes where ever you need it. It impressed me with how water resistant it is and how fast it dries. O yeah and wind??? What wind stops wind and keeps you warm hands down one awesome tool for the great outdoors
It's like climbing into a sleeping bag at the end of a cold day
If you have ever been on a hunt that the only time you are warm is when you climb into your sleeping bag, you know what I'm talking about. This is the best piece of gear I have bought recently. So comfortable that I wear it around town when not hunting. At 5'8" and 160 lbs, I am between sizes (medium and large). I ordered both and agonized over which one to keep for a week. Then opted for the large so that it is roomy enough to add some layers beneath if necessary. Kind of pricey, but worth every penny. True quality Stone Glacier built.
This jacket is extremely light and very warm. The only negative comment I can make is that the outer shell seems a bit thin, but that is the give and take with lightweight gear. It seems to be holding up well through two hunts, so no complaints from me!
I have used this Jacket just around camp and sitting/glassing in the evenings and it's almost too warm right now. I can already tell this is going to be my go to later in the Fall. I now own a few different SG products and just like my previous items, this jacket is built to withstand the toughest elements and beatings. Thanks Stone Glacier for making such great products!
From the start, fit and finish on this jacket were superb. I’m 6’1, 225, and the XL fit perfectly. I figured it would be too warm for summer, even in the high country of the Bob. As usual, the Bob had other ideas. I suffered through a few trips with an inadequate light synthetic insulator before I realized that light insulator is still heavier than the Grumman. Took it out under the Chinese Wall this week, and the Grumman proved perfect from the first chill to the frost of predawn mornings. Can’t wait to put this to the real test in the backcountry stalking elk in a few weeks.
