Just like the original, but extra. Extra warmth via a 200 gram Thinsulate addition to the crown, extra length on the fleece-lined earband for added coverage, extra awesome for every cold-weather demand. Four times warmer than the original.
Very happy with this quality hat. Received it in 3 days. I’ve had a regular stormy Kromer for approximately 15 years and is still worn daily in the fall/ winter. I just needed a little warmer hat for the 10 below days. I would’ve rated it a 5 but the peak sticks up more than the original regular. Still all good.
I have worn it several times and find it very warm and comfortable. I noticed that it seemed sized a little small for a 7 & 5/8. However, that issue may just be trying to fit my @Square Dutchman Head.” HA! It seems to have more height than my Orange Rancher, but this is no problem. The color goes great with my down parka! Thinking about a black one now. Keep making fine products.
I order one size larger with the insulated cap, fits just right. I have the insulated cotton waxed cap. But I wanted one that I could just pull the extra flaps down, for extra cold wind days. The Rancher is the perfect cap for those below zero Wisconsin days.
I have wanted to try a Stormy for along time but didn't want to pay that much for a hat I hadn't seen before...... WOW! I ordered two, one for upland, one for everything else and LOVE THEM!!!!!! The Rancher is the perfect warm hat for cold weather! I do not like cold on my ears and this hat is perfect! Wouldn't change a thing!!!
I think they run small. I have several fitted ball caps and ordered the size as those and it fits very snug. I would prefer a looser fit. There is a lot of room between the top of my head and the crown of the cap. Not sure if it’s designed that way to create an air gap or not. Wife calls me Elmer Fudd when I wear it. But It is very warm and keeps my ears warm also which is why I bought it.
Yet to receive purchase ~~ So sorry it's taking so long to arrive. It left our facility on Feb. 9 and is still on its way according to USPS. You can always give our customer service team a call and they might have a solution for this issue. Please call them at 888-455-2253. ~~
Not going to lie, it’s a little gaudy for trying to make a fashion statement . But I bought it for work and it gives me the extra coverage I was looking for!! I’ll be buying another rancher in orange next ! ~~ Sometimes we need substance over style - especially in the frigid tundra! Thanks for loving the hat. SK ~~
If you are looking for a cap for winter this is the one you need. This is very warm and comfortable. The ear flaps are the best, I have a huge head and not to take anything away from the standard Kromer but they don't pull down far enough for me. Not only is this hat very well made but it is made in the USA and that matters a lot to me. We have purchased about 8 Kromers this winter between the two of us. Thanks, and Stormy would be proud of his name on this cap!
Very comfortable except when sweating as the headband area feels wet, a wicking material there would help. Warm enough for most activities, but wind does penetrate. Ear flaps work well except when wind is in your face, then they don't help much or even make it worse by funneling it in. I am going to put a strap through the flaps so I can tighten them down. That should work well. For really cold and windy weather sheepskin fleece is my go to. Quality, workmanship and style as well as function for all but the coldest weather is great. ~~ Great suggestions - this will be passed along to our design team. SK ~~
The rancher is a somewhat warm hat and comfortable. If you are looking for a hat to keep your ears warm, this is not the hat. The flaps don’t cover the ears very good and the fabric is thin over the ears. I bought this hat for ice fishing and every day chores but am not happy with it. There’s just not enough ear protection. ~~ Sorry to hear you are unhappy with your Rancher cap. You have 90 days after purchase to return it for a refund. Please contact our customer service team at 888-455-2253 for help with a return. SK ~~
Got my SK Rancher back in 2008, still wearing it to this day, great for those cold day out breaking ice and checking cattle. Keeps my head nice and warm. Only reasons I didn’t give it a 5 star is over time the ear flaps are flopping out and let the cold air in. So my ears don’t stay very warm. Other reason is that it’s dry clean only.
Got this hat and it is amazing!. The pull down flap n the back is great for keeping your ears warm when it is incredibly cold. The crown has thinsulate added to it and it keeps my head very warm - almost too warm, depending on how hard I am working. I wore it yesterday when I was loading groceries for clients when I volunteered at the local food pantry. Kept my noggin and ears warm throughout my 2 hour shift in the close to zero air temperatures. Great hat - recommended highly.
The Rancher is a great hat that covers the ears better than the traditional SK hat. Great quality/look/functionality and happy to buy a homegrown product from a homegrown company. Iconic! It is a generational hat that I'll give to my grandchild; LOL. Perhaps our country can come back to recognize what it takes to make quality and expect it from everyone. Well done Stormy!! How's that for a review? Boom!
I've worn flat caps for many years — they're comfortable, but don't keep my ears warm. So I decided to give the Rancher a try. Despite careful measuring, I ended up with one that was too small. Exchanged it for the next size up and am very pleased. It fits well, is solidly made, and much warmer on windy wintry days than my flat caps. The insulation in the top does make it a bit tall on the head (and perhaps a bit awkward looking), but its functionality has already made it a wardrobe staple.
This is an excellent cap for the winter months. The added insulation keeps you warm no matter what the temp. Quality is excellent also. I would recommend this cap to everyone who wants their head warm during the winter months.
I love my Stormy Kromer! Ive had it for 10 years and wear it all the time. Here are some photos of the wear and tear. I get a lot of compliments and tell everyone proudly "Its a Stormy Kromer, they are made in Michigan and I would recommend one to anybody!"
