Upper measurement (UM): measure the circumference of your leg at the point where you would wear the top elastic of the kneepad
Lower measurement (LM): measure the circumference of your leg 6" below where you measured for the upper measurement

M: S = 10" or less M = 10-13" L = 13" or more
