The Altitudes take the comfort of a light hiker or supportive tennis shoe and combine it with the ruggedness and durability needed for an early season hunting boot. \nThe 2.5 stiffness has still been plenty for most of the terrain in western Montana, but these boots are comfortable enough to be worn for casual hiking or just around town. I've since put a ton of mountain miles on them for turkey and shed hunting. \nWhat I like: The 2.5 stiffness rating is a good transition from the flexibility of the light hikers without being too overwhelmingly stiff. The waterproofing has worked well, though I am good about unlacing/cleaning/treating them with manufacturer recommended waterproofing spray, so if you abuse your stuff, your results may vary. I've worn gaiters and hiked a few hours in 6\" of wet spring snow, and my feet were just a bit damp from sweat afterwards. The traction is excellent, too. \nWhat I DON'T like- Crispi labels this as an 8\" tall boot. I've measured them from the ground to the tallest part of the ankle cuff, and they're MAYBE 7.25\" tall. I was expecting taller, and that's why I removed a star from the review. They're barely tall enough to give a little ankle support when side-hilling... and I mean BARELY. My other gripe is that like many other manufacturers, Crispi doesn't offer this in wide sizes for women. Men get a wide option, but the ladies are SOL in that department. I have a wide foot, and I wear orthotics, and these barely give me enough volume in the forefoot for the added height of the insole (the insoles that come in these are very flat, so even if you don't have messed up feet like I do, I'd highly recommend something more supportive). \nA note on sizing- Crispi's size chart equates a women's 9 to a men's 8 in their boots. I found this to be true... I tried on a men's 8 in the store, and it was too big. I later ordered a women's 9, because that's what I wear in most other shoes.
