Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I cook with wood chunks?
For On-Demand smoke, add 1-2 chunks (no larger than your fist) directly to the Ash bin, this will last approximately 2-3 hours. For Controlled smoke, add four (4) pounds of charcoal and this one (1) wood chunk, creating layers of charcoal and wood chunks.

Do I need to preseason my grill?
Yes, it is very important to pre-season your grill before cooking. Pre-seasoning helps to burn off any chemicals and oils left over from the manufacturing process. Fill the hopper with charcoal approximately 1/4-1/2 full. Start your grill following the START-UP instructions and set the temperature to 250F(121C) for 60 minutes. Next, set the temperature to 400F (204C) for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, shut down the grill following the SHUTDOWN instructions. Allow the grill to cool COMPLETELY. After the grill has cooled, using a napkin or cloth, rub a light coat of cooking oil on smoke and sear grates, warming/smoking racks, charcoal grate, and the inside of the frill lid and body. Then, repeat steps 3-6 at a temperature of 350F. *Frequent seasoning help to prevent rusting. If rusting occurs, clean with a steel brush, apply vegetable shortening, and heat as indicated above.

Tips For Wi-Fi:
  • Use a 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network (not 5Ghz) with a strong signal to set up Wi-Fi on the grill
  • Temporary hot spots are not recommended
  • Changes to the modem/router settings may cause the grill to lose Wi-Fi connection and setup will have to be repeated
The connection icon is blinking on the grill's controller?
When the grill lid is opened, the ability to control the grill is disabled for mobile devices and placed in a “monitor only” mode until the lid has been closed and the “connect” button is pushed to re-enable full functionality for a mobile device. Every time the lid is opened, the user will need to push the connect button in order to gain mobile device control as a safety precaution.

Do I need to update the controller before I use the grill?
We do recommend updating the controller before using the grill to ensure it is running on the latest update, but it is not required before using the grill.
