The Gumdrop jigs are a great tool to get your bait, particularly night crawlers, off the bottom. When fishing in weedy spots or when fish aren't pinned to the bottom, it presents your bait where a fish can see it. The stinger hook gives you that extra edge for short strikes, or when fish are just not that aggressive. I don't travel North without them.
I have used this with a sliding sinker to keep above weeds and rock. You can use this with nightcrawlers or large minnows. I have caught every thing from pan fish to bass and stripers. Always have a large assortment of them in my tackle box...
We catch bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, smallmouth & largemouth bass with these floaters. We put a small split shot 2 feet up the line & go at it. We typically use a 1/2 or 3/4 night crawler & set it up weedless. It's the best way to float a worm over rocks & sticks without getting hung up all the time. You will catch a lot of fish just on the stinger hook. I caught an 8 " Redear on the stinger hook & then a 7 lb bass took the whole rig as I was bringing in the Redear. The bass is on my wall now!
This is by far the best rig I have ever used. Only complaint I have is that it is getting hard to find this setup in most shops. The pre-attached stinger is the best of the rigs offered. I have never once caught a fish on the coward hook, every fish has been on this stinger. The way the are built into the floating gum drop design keeps them from tangling or coming off. It is always fun at lunch to grab my fishing pole, hook. Up this rig with a crawler and it spots right after the campers leave frustrated. I set a weight about 12" from the bait and let It ride off the bottom. They never miss.
